Your Character's First Words
Support me on Patreon!
A person’s first words can depend a surprising amount of influences in their early life. As with most things in the world, many studies have been conducted on the first words spoken by a baby as they grow. Here is a good place to record your character’s first word and when, where, why, and how they said it. It is important to define what makes a word here, however.
When asked what a baby’s first word is, a great deal many people interpret the question as asking what were the first sounds to come out of the baby’s mouth that happen to be in the same order as a word that already exists. It is common for eager parents to interpret a stray word amongst a stew of incoherent babbling as their infant’s first word, whether it be a ma-maba-ba, or some other combination of baby s

Naming Your Character
Support me on Patreon!
It’s a well-known fact that characters in stories have names. On occasion, a character’s name may never be made known throughout the tale, but the wonder of pen and paper and the words written thereon is that every detail must be referred to in some way, and whether or not a character is outright given a proper name, they have to be called something. Short stories may often call the main character what they are or may be told from the mind of the main character, who perhaps doesn’t think of his own name. As a story goes on, however, it becomes more and more difficult and tedious for both the writer and the reader to avoid properly introducing a character. The longer a narrative goes, the more likely it is to have named characters; and the more focus a character gets, likewise are they more likely to be given a proper name. But what to name these characters? Beginners o

Patreon

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 3, 2017, 1:19 AM

My Patreon is now live!

At long last the wait is over. Another more-or-less content-y update for the Blank Character Sheet has been released, and with it, a window to so much more. This new year, I made it a point to focus much more largely on ideas and endeavors that I want my life to take the shape of as I grow into the author I've always wanted to be. This means a greater effort put into my free resources than ever. This means fleshing out my own novel in more proactive and exciting ways. This means putting away some projects that I feel have become more of a distraction in my life. This means taking charge and proving that writing is really what I want to do.

For me, it begins with you. Patreon is a fantastic creation and an incredibly easy way to fund the projects you believe in. Or, in my case, to gain funding for the projects I believe in so I can put more time and energy into them. Right now, I put far too much time into my job to be able to put the effort into my writing that I believe it deserves. Patreon paves a way around the everyday demands of a job in retail and makes it possible for people like me to keep the stuff I do free, as I believe it should be. Sure, I could make this project a paid service, charging you to use it and some way or another and only letting you use it if you have money, which would allow me to quite my job after a short while and live off of my own means that way, but that goes against the very mission I've set for this endeavor. That is, I want these resources to be available for free so you don't have to afford them. Patreon makes that simple and its very existence is proof enough that dreams can come true. One of my favorite phrases used to sum up their service is "Those who can afford may pay so that those can't don't have to." I believe this statement is the essence of Patreon.

You may or may not have noticed in the forty or so minutes since I posted it, but to kick of the new potential I think this page has gained, I have made the preview image actually look good. The old one persisted for a very long time and I made it back in high school where I perhaps wasn't the best graphic designer on the block. This new image captures a more art deco style and really does a much better job of making it look like it was made by someone who knows what they are doing. Additionally, I've finally added a preface to the document so visitors don't have to see that big blank page between the Table of Contents and the juicy core of the resource. Aside from that, I have added a few minor things here and there, but they are largely unimportant. What's important is I am already at work at expanding three of the attributes that make up the sheet — a 300% increase in what I've had for the last two years. I hope to have at least one of them finished by the end of the month and to have at least one finished per month for the rest of the year. Keep in mind I can do even more if I'm able to cut hours at work.

That being said, I am in some cases unsure that everyone is seeing the size of this character sheet beyond the individual attributes you see on the deviation page. That being said, I plan to post each completed description for each attribute to the sheet, most likely in scraps or in sta.sh, from the Google Document for more easily-accessible and deviantArt-friendly use.

Until next time, thanks for all your support, and godspeed as you go on in your endeavors as a writer!

Excellent character sheet, had a few things in it I had to remove because they weren't relevant to the setting the literary character is based in, of course, and I did tack on an astrological sign thing under Zodiac because they're a little bit similar in that regard, I think, & and might just be interesting to know both things. Anyhow! It's an overall excellent character sheet and throughout almost all of it, I was able to quickly and easily skim down through it without even slowing down too much while putting in some good information. I admit there's parts that're making me stop and think for hours, but hey, that's not exactly a bad thing, either, for a novelist to have to do with character(s) that're going to appear in several books. Just wanted to say thank you for the time & effort you've put into this, and for not asking "If this character could be characterized by an object, which object would it be and why?" LOL

Howdy! Sorry for the super late response!

You can use this character sheet for any character across any medium you like. It doesn't have to be literature or even fiction!
You can also post your completed sheet anywhere as long as you link back to the original deviation page. :)
