The Google Doc has a nice guide for each attribute!

Current Question Count: ~394

After a long journey of collecting questions and a great deal of research into what makes a character, I'm finally ready to roll out my current progress on this character dossier. As far as my research goes, this is easily one of the most comprehensive character sheets around and it will proceed to grow as more and more attributes are added. It's so big, in fact, that you'll probably have trouble filling the entire thing for any single character. But don't worry, you probably won't need most of the questions here for your story anyway. If the task seems a little daunting, you may wish to fill out the sheet to describe your own self before taking a shot at your characters. Just don't post that one online. That's how identity thieves steal you.

My only rules for using this sheet are that you don't claim any portion of the sheet as your own, and that you link back to this deviation in the comments of your upload, whether or not it's on deviantART. Not only will this make it easier for your friends to fill out the sheet for themselves, but as long as you post it back to deviantART, it will also notify me where it has been used so I can give it a look myself. I find it fun reading what you all are up to with your own stories!

If you'd like to see an example, there is an outdated and unfinished character sheet for my pony OC Cloud Control. If you still prefer the old version of the sheet, I still have it available on my sta.sh [here], where it will no longer be updated. If you have any question, be sure to check the descriptions on that sheet first. If those don't help, don't be afraid to ask me!

This sheet isn't and probably won't ever be "finished", so if you think of anything you think should be added, let me know! I'm happy to add contributions to the sheet!

I've also released a supplementary Google Document the gives extremely detailed explanations of each attribute. It's currently very bare, but it will be filled in as time goes on. I'm absolutely open to any suggestions you might have concerning it!

FAQ:
Q: Why does this version have fewer questions than the first one?
A: This version of the sheet actually does have more questions than the last one. The reason the official count is lower is because I've stopped counting each individual "favorite" and "least favorite" as its own question since it seemed a little like cheating to use them all. The size of this sheet still speaks for itself without them.

Q: Can I have access to the Google Document?
A: No. You probably mean well and I do appreciate that, but whether it's that or you just misunderstood what requesting access to the document means, I probably won't ever accept any of these requests. As it stands, it's important to me that this remain a solo project. If you meant to ask for permission to use the document to flesh out your characters, there's no need to ask permission. This was made for you to use. My only rules are that you leave a link back to this sheet if you post yours anywhere and that you do not claim any portion of the sheet as your own.

That's a good question. In this iteration of the sheet, eye type is the most appropriate place for describing that third eyelid.

When I'm writing characters, I usually think of around 5 things the character is good at, 5 things the character is not good at, 5 character traits and 5 character flaws. Then I start drawing and along the way I'll be able to write a story around the concept. If there's more characters in that universe I'll also think of ways those characters would interact. For example, the optimist and pessimist wouldn't be able to get along too well, but they would be able to work with eachother to achieve a common goal, making their relation purely business- oriented.

holy shit just write up a paragraph for your character

"Virginity"
"Fetishes"
"savings"

All very important things that are neccesary in RP i changed my mind this is perfect

really though hwo fills that whole thing out, it's more unorganized than just writing about the character

The objective isn't to fill the whole thing out. It's meant to be a reference for your characters that you fill out as needed and as you write your story. If you're filling out every single attribute before even starting your story, you're spending much too much time on characterization and not enough time on plot.

Hmm, I think I need to do a basic character sheet first, lol.
I wish I could get this detailed about my characters, but every time I try it seems like 7/8 of the questions are completely unrelated to anything. I guess that wouldn't be such a problem if I wasn't so OCD that I feel compelled to answer every question, in order, because reasons. XD

Thanks for the suggestion! :)

I did end up grabbing this character sheet, it was actually one one the top recommended characters sheets when I looked it up on google, lol. I just have to go through the questions one by one and ask myself "Do I really need to know how many cm Ashtad was when he was born?"

But I still run into things that make me think about it way too long, like, "Okay, the character doesn't have any tattoos _currently_, but what if I want to give this character some kind of royal tattoo to prove she is the long lost Heir? I don't... but what if I do?"

I kind of wish there were genre specific character sheets. Like a modern or futuristic character sheet would ask "what's his/her driver's license/ID number?" and a horror/thriller would ask "what's his/her phobia?" and a fantasy could ask "what is his/her animal companion?"

That's a very good idea! There are a number of a additions I hope to make to this sheet int he future. A genre-based filter would be a really cool idea if I could find a way to implement it well. I can think of several questions that are really only specific to some genres (or species) and don't apply to anything else. I'm thinking mostly of the animal characteristics like fur color and tail length. A way to filter those out would be a really good move in the right direction.

Hmm, to have it customizable would be great, but you would have to go from a static page to an app or a web page. Which might not be a bad idea, but you might need somebody who knows a bit more about web design. Do you have Adobe Acrobat? That can help with web publishing a lot. I took a class in it, but I only had a trial version.

You already have your questions in categories.
If you could make each category it's own document you can create a menu that lets the writer pick which category he/she is interested in. That way you can add categories that are genre specific, like "Anthropomorphic", "Vehicle", "Animal Companion", "Weapons". You can start with a "Basic" sheet with four sections "Name, Description, Story, Extras", then each section would have the option to add categories of questions. Like, under "Name" you would have such categories as "Name Origin, Name Meaning, Phonics", but also "Family", "Titles", "History" anything connected to who the individual is. Then under "Description" you would have anything relating to the individual personally, like "Physical Description", "Personal Possessions", "Like/Dislikes". So on and so fourth.
Really, the possibilities are endless.

... Sorry if I'm being pushy, you don't have to do any of this, it's just an idea. Once I get an idea in my head I just follow it, part of being a writer I guess, lol.
