After some thought, I've decided that my update schedule for my writing resources is much too slow and erratic to go on accepting patronage for it. The truth is that the character sheet has fallen to the sidelines in my list of priorities and, between work duties and my main project - my worldbuilding - there really isn't much time left over to work on character sheets. Not enough to expect support for it, anyway.

That being said, I'm reverting my Patreon account to patron-only. Essentially that means I can still support other content creators for their hard work providing magnificent educational material of their own, but I can no longer receive money from people who deem my work worthy of investing in. I recommend taking a look at Artifexian for wordlbuilding videos and Geography NOW! for videos on world geography. They're much more deserving of your pledges than my work has been so far.

To be clear, this doesn't mean I'm abandoning all work on my Character Sheet and other resources here. I do intend to continue working on it all, piece by piece, as often as I need to or have the drive to, but considering it's been over a year since I last did anything to the Blank Character Sheet, I don't think it's fair of me to accept any kind of money for it.

At some point I hope to reopen my Patreon, but I can be fairly certain it would be for videos, blogs, publications, etc. concerning my worldbuilding rather than for any of the resources I've been working on here on deviantArt.

I hope you can understand where I'm coming from, and I'm sorry if I got anyone's hopes up when I opened the Patreon. I honestly thought my excitement for the project would last a lot longer than it did.

My Patreon is now live!

At long last the wait is over. Another more-or-less content-y update for the Blank Character Sheet has been released, and with it, a window to so much more. This new year, I made it a point to focus much more largely on ideas and endeavors that I want my life to take the shape of as I grow into the author I've always wanted to be. This means a greater effort put into my free resources than ever. This means fleshing out my own novel in more proactive and exciting ways. This means putting away some projects that I feel have become more of a distraction in my life. This means taking charge and proving that writing is really what I want to do.

For me, it begins with you. Patreon is a fantastic creation and an incredibly easy way to fund the projects you believe in. Or, in my case, to gain funding for the projects I believe in so I can put more time and energy into them. Right now, I put far too much time into my job to be able to put the effort into my writing that I believe it deserves. Patreon paves a way around the everyday demands of a job in retail and makes it possible for people like me to keep the stuff I do free, as I believe it should be. Sure, I could make this project a paid service, charging you to use it and some way or another and only letting you use it if you have money, which would allow me to quite my job after a short while and live off of my own means that way, but that goes against the very mission I've set for this endeavor. That is, I want these resources to be available for free so you don't have to afford them. Patreon makes that simple and its very existence is proof enough that dreams can come true. One of my favorite phrases used to sum up their service is "Those who can afford may pay so that those can't don't have to." I believe this statement is the essence of Patreon.

You may or may not have noticed in the forty or so minutes since I posted it, but to kick of the new potential I think this page has gained, I have made the preview image actually look good. The old one persisted for a very long time and I made it back in high school where I perhaps wasn't the best graphic designer on the block. This new image captures a more art deco style and really does a much better job of making it look like it was made by someone who knows what they are doing. Additionally, I've finally added a preface to the document so visitors don't have to see that big blank page between the Table of Contents and the juicy core of the resource. Aside from that, I have added a few minor things here and there, but they are largely unimportant. What's important is I am already at work at expanding three of the attributes that make up the sheet — a 300% increase in what I've had for the last two years. I hope to have at least one of them finished by the end of the month and to have at least one finished per month for the rest of the year. Keep in mind I can do even more if I'm able to cut hours at work.

That being said, I am in some cases unsure that everyone is seeing the size of this character sheet beyond the individual attributes you see on the deviation page. That being said, I plan to post each completed description for each attribute to the sheet, most likely in scraps or in sta.sh, from the Google Document for more easily-accessible and deviantArt-friendly use.

Until next time, thanks for all your support, and godspeed as you go on in your endeavors as a writer!

Good day all. First things first, I've been silently going about and making a small number of very minor tweaks to the Blank Character Sheet, which include fixing spelling errors, switching to more accurate terms, etc. Among them was the change of the Foreword at the beginning of the sheet to the more accurate Preface. This had slipped through the cracks when I first added it to the sheet, even though the content for that section still hasn't been posted, but Foreword is a generally written by someone commentating on some else's work, oftentimes by an ascended follower re-releasing a special edition of the work. Since I'm writing this whole thing myself, the term Foreword isn't completely accurate. The word that was intended for this space was Preface, which serves as in introduction to a work and describes its scope, aims, and oftentimes the reason the work came to be.

That being said, I am happy to announce the Preface will be completed by the end of the year, and it will come with a bit of even more exciting news regarding my plans for the sheet and potentially other resources in 2017. I like to keep things a surprise until they're released, so very much of it will remain a mystery for the next week and half. What I can say is that some of the things I'm working on will hopefully allow me more time to focus on the sheet, which would allow me to add much more research and therefore more of the detailed descriptions I think many of you have come to anticipate and that I have this failed to deliver outside of the Quote and Names sections and an older ID Number section that will be rewritten. I think more of these updates would benefit everyone.

There are a couple things I can announce, though, since they are already public. The first is that I've changed my username, as I'm sure you've already received a notification for. TheChugsBoson was a nickname I gave myself based on an inside joke with some friends a few years ago. I still use it from place to place, but I'm personally a much bigger fan of shorter names. As William Shakespeare put it, "Brevity is the soul of wit." TheBoson is much more concise and I feel it still captures the original idea of my first username, but is short enough that I can feel comfortable calling it "brief". I had intended at first go for the even simpler "Broson", but the name is taken in many places and it turns out there is already a Swedish tire company using that name with whom I'd rather avoid any legal disputes. To drive home the name change, I also updated my avatar.

I have also put together a Facebook page on which I will post any updates to the sheet as they are released, among other things. It is freshly launched, explaining why there is very minimal content so far. I may also post minor teasers as to the upcoming content that I will bring to both the character resources and this account in general.

Lastly, as I'm sure the bulk of you have either assumed or figured out already, there is a story and world I am building of my own. None of it has yet been posted to this account as much of it is still in the works or otherwise not quite final. However, in addition to the resources I already have lined up for this account, I do intend to post content and materials about my own world that I have been creating. This world is indeed why I began the Blank Character Sheet in the first place, and at last being able to display it in finality would be a major milestone in addition to the stuff coming this January.

Keep your eyes peeled as things begin to roll out next year. I really do hope for it to be a much more busy year for this account, and I assume that's what you all want as well, right? Until then, see you in the character sheet!

A Fair Query

3 min read
It's a clear reality that my 370-Question Character Template is by far the most popular deviation in any of my galleries. Indeed it is the reason this account was first created. I can see why it's so popular, too. A ton of work went into it and currently I believe it to be the largest and most comprehensive character template on the internet. But it is far from finished.

Ages ago, I mentioned that the sheet was never really meant to have a "final stage" in its development as more and more attributes will be added as time goes on. Much later, it dawned on me that the sheet was far too gritty for the professional appearance I like my creations to have and I publicly announced a massive overhaul of the entire sheet to make everything more clear and easier to understand. Since then, the sheet has remained untouched.

The truth is that I'm just one person. I compiled the entire template based on less-comprehensive sheets I skimmed around the internet and added a vast array of attributes of my own. In my original deviation over at dehydromon, I did my best to describe each attribute in as few words as possible so it wouldn't take up too much space. Even that remains unfinished. But the fact is those descriptions still leave much to be desired, especially for the more complex traits such as Persona's or Community Relationships.

Now, when I say the sheets will be undergoing a massive overhaul, I mean huge updates. Descriptions will be elaborated to the point where they will leave zero confusion and even go as far as making little suggestions to point you in the right direction should you be facing writer's block. That means some attributes could legitimately take pages upon pages to fully explain.

Which finally brings me the question. As it stands, the sheet has gone virtual nowhere in over a year for lots of reason. Work gets busy, other projects get in the way, and oftentimes I don't really feel motivated to work on the character sheet since the current goal seems so far away. My original plan was to just go down the list explaining things, which could means years before I get down to some things that people have questions on.

Should I continue what I'm doing now and go down the list, slowly filling in the information and updating it on dA at much longer intervals, or would you prefer me to update the descriptions when someone asks about them?
